Christensen Places 11th on Three Meter, Diving Team Continues Zone Meet Friday

Day 1 Results
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Senior Lana
Christensen finished 11th on the 3-meter springboard in the
first day of competition at the 2011 NCAA Zone E Regionals at the
Minnesota Aquatics Center on Thursday. The Lumberjacks six
divers will compete on 1-meter Friday at 10 a.m.
Christensen turned in a score of
554.05 ending the day as the top finisher for NAU. The senior
from Casper, Wyo., duplicated her performance on 3-meter placing in
the same spot a year ago.
"All in all it was a good day for
us," said diving coach Nikki Huffman. "Lana did a great job.
We had just a couple misses but at Zones you really need have
a full set of quality dives."
The Lumberjacks had five other
divers compete on 3-meter on Thursday.
Senior Megan Collier
finished behind Christensen in 26th place with a score of 241.25.
Senior Taryn Harris
followed in 31st place scoring 231.75.
Junior Holly Frost
ended up 36th while sophomore Kristy
Ardavanis placed just behind her in 37th. Junior Cassie
Anderson rounded out the Lumberjack finishers in 47th.
The NAU diving team will compete on
1-meter Friday at 10 a.m. The event will be the final
competition for the Lumberjacks at this year's Zones.
"We have the 1-meter tomorrow and
are looking forward to improving on today's results," Huffman said.
"This is our last day since we are not competing on platform
so hopefully we can put up some good scores."

KNOW… The Northern Arizona University
athletics department recorded a cumulative grade point average of
3.07 GPA among its more than 300 student-athletes at the completion
of the spring semester. It marked the 12th semester
out of the last 13 overall that the Lumberjack student-athletes
have recorded a 3.00 cumulative GPA or higher. Since 1998, NAU
student athletes have earned a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher in 22
out of 24 semesters.
