FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Quarterback Michael Herrick joined nine former teammates working out for professional scouts on the South Fields on the Northern Arizona University campus Wednesday afternoon.

“It was a good day,” said assistant coach Francis St. Paul, who played in the NFL with the St. Louis Rams, Pittsburgh Steelers, Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Herrick was joined by defensive lineman Michael Battisti, wide receiver Davieun Curry-Chapman, linebacker Cody Dowd, safety Matt Estrada, tight end Nick Larson, linebacker Anthony Llanos, defensive lineman Kyle Rath, cornerback Taelor Worrell and linebacker Reid Worthington.

“I thought it went well,” said Herrick. “It was a beautiful day today and everyone came out and competed really well. I thought I threw the ball well and only missed one pass. It was fun to come out and compete.

Herrick has been working out at ProActive Sports Performance in Westlake Village, Calif., with trainer Ryan Capretta. He threw to both Curry-Chapman and Larson.

“He performed well and I thought he threw the ball well,” said St. Paul.

The event started in the NAU weight room, where the players had their height and weight measured. Battisti recorded a team-best 27 reps of 225 pounds on the bench, while Curry Chapman had the fastest time in the 40-yard dash in 4.62. Estrada broad-jumped10-4 and Taelor Worrell had a team-best 37-inch vertical jump.

The players will await the upcoming NFL Draft and potential free agent opportunities after the draft. Last year, running back Alex Henderson was signed by the St. Louis Rams. Kicker Paul Ernster was the last Lumberjack taken in the draft, a seventh-round pick of the Denver Broncos. NAU has had seven players sign as a free agent since 2000 and make the NFL roster.

“You continue to work out, get ready and hopefully on draft day you get a call,” said St. Paul.

Herrick and Estrada, who was sidelined during the drills with a hamstring pull, will both compete at the University of Hawaii pro day scheduled for March 31 at the Home Depot Center in California.
