Basketball's Galloway Named McKay Scholarship Finalist

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Northern Arizona women's basketball player Jenna Galloway has been recognized as a finalist for the prestigious Jim McKay Scholarship Program, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced this week.

Galloway is a three-time Big Sky All-Academic selection and three-time Golden Eagle Scholar-Athlete Award recipient majoring in electronic media and film with a minor in journalism.  She will likely become a four-time honoree after this spring and is a candidate for NAU's Female Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Galloway has been a mainstay in the Lumberjack lineup appearing in over 110 games with 67 starts.  This season, she scored a career-high 21 points against North Dakota State and finished second on the team in field goal percentage.

Due to her success in the classroom, the community, and on the court, Galloway was nominated for the yearly scholarship along with a select group of student-athletes.  In three and a half years, the senior from Spokane, Wash., has posted a 3.89 cumulative grade-point-average.

In 2008, the NCAA established the Jim McKay Scholarship Program as a means of recognizing the immense contributions and legacy of pioneer sports journalist Jim McKay.  McKay scholars will be recognized as having demonstrated a unique aptitude and commitment to the communications field and promises to be a future leader in the industry.

McKay scholars also will demonstrate the highest level of professional integrity, including the principles of truthfulness, accuracy, objectivity, impartiality, fairness and public accountability, with the element of compassion that so infused McKay's long and storied career.

The NCAA will release the male and female award winners after April 17th.
