/ April 22, 2011
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Clackamas
Community College post player Max Jacobsen has signed a National
Letter of Intent to attend Northern Arizona University in the fall
and play basketball, Head Coach Mike Adras announced.
“He played for a great junior
college coach in Coach Clif Wegner and really developed this
season,” said Adras. “He had a breakout year and
received great tutelage from a coach who has been doing this a long
time.”
Jacobsen averaged 22 points per
game and 8.0 rebounds, while shooting 68 percent from the field. He
was named the Southern Region MVP and led his team to a region
championship and 20-8 record. He scored a season-high 46 points and
grabbed 19 rebounds against Yakima Valley, posting five
double-doubles on the season and scoring 20 or more points 15
times.
“We are excited to get
him,” said Adras. “He is a great student. We see him as
someone who can score and play in the low post. He can score around
the basket and also step out and shoot a 15-footer and make
shots.”
The Lake Oswego, Ore., native
originally signed with Portland State out of high school before
transferring to Clackamas. He played in three consecutive Three
Rivers League championships at Lake Oswego High School, teaming
with NBA standout Kevin Love during his freshman season on team
that finished second at state, losing to a South Medford team that
was led by Duke star Kyle Singler. Jacobsen lettered three times
and was named first team All-Three Rivers League. He was also a
member of the Oregon Lords AAU team.
He plans on majoring in engineering
at NAU and three years of eligibility remaining.
Jacobsen joins three high school
perimeter players signed by Adras in the fall during the early
signing period, including point guard James Douglas of Orange
Lutheran High School in Orange, Calif., and wings Colin Gruber of
Harbor High School in Santa Cruz, Calif., and Daniel Cheek of
Corona Del Mar High School in Newport Beach, Calif.
