Eight Track and Field Athletes Honored by USTFCCCA

NEW ORLEANS - Eight Northern Arizona track and field athletes, in addition to the women's team as a whole, were named to the 2011 Division I All-Academic Track and Field Team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for its academic efforts in the 2010-11 school year.
To earn team honors the institution must have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better. To be recognized individually the athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25. In addition to the academic standard, student-athletes must also have met one of the following athletic standards: (1) for the indoor season, finish the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event, or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; (2) for the outdoor season, participate in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
The eight NAU student-athletes named to the 2011 Division I All-Academic Track and Field Team included Kortnee Burton, a junior distance runner from Brea, Calif. and Jessica Bush, a freshman thrower from Yakima, Wash. who represented the women.
The remaining six Lumberjack men honored included Ben Ashkettle, a senior distance runner from Melbourne, Australia; Tim Freriks, a sophomore distance runner from Cottonwood, Ariz.; Jacob Nicol, a senior thrower from Peoria, Ariz.; Jason Pedersen, a senior distance runner from Simi Valley, Calif.; Andres Rossini, a senior thrower from Cordoba, Argentina; and Pascal Tang, a junior thrower from Leverkusen, Germany.
