Former Quarterback Herrick to Play in German Football League
/ January 16, 2012
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Former Northern Arizona quarterback Michael Herrick has signed a contract to play this upcoming season with the New Yorker Lions of the German Football League. Herrick, the all-time leading passer in California prep history while at Valencia High School and All-American at NAU, had been negotiating with several teams in Europe before deciding on the Lions.
Herrick is the all-time career leader in completion percentage (65.0) and yards per attempts (7.5) at NAU. He finished his career in the record books in several categories including touchdowns (5th, 40), passing yards (5th, 6,460), pass completions (5th, 561) and pass attempts (6th, 863). The Valencia, Calif., native threw for a school-record 574 yards and four touchdowns against Eastern Washington in 2009, shattering the school record of 474 yards set by Travis Brown against Montana in 1996.
One of the eight teams in the Northern Division, the most competitive of all leagues in Europe, the Lions were formerly named the Braunschweig Lions and have won seven German Bowl Championships, the most of any German Football League team. Herrick will leave for the Lions' preseason camp held in Milan, Italy, in March and go to Braunschweig for the seven-month season.
