NEW ORLEANS – Northern Arizona University junior distance runner Diego Estrada claimed two of the 184 first-team All-America distinctions given out by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the 2012 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field season.

Estrada wrapped up his second appearance at the NCAA Indoor Championships with a fifth-place finish in the 5,000 meters (13:38.45) and a seventh-place finish in the 3,000 meters (7:53.39).  He was also the only male Big Sky Conference athlete to earn first or second team honors in 2012.

The three-time NAU indoor record holder now holds seven All-America awards to his name between cross country and track and field. Estrada holds cross country All-America honors from 2010 (16th) and 2011 (7th), and he earned back-to-back first-team accolades from last year's track and field campaign, taking fourth-place indoors and fifth outdoors in the 5,000 meters. Estrada's only second-team All-America award came last season following a 14th-place finish in the indoor 3,000 meters.

Estrada's two scoring finishes at the national meet gave NAU six team points and a 35th-place tie, four spots better than the Lumberjacks' team finish in 2011.

A junior this indoor season, Estrada will redshirt the 2012 outdoor season, allowing him to return for the full track and field campaign in 2013.
