Winner Featured on CBS Nov. 29
Voting Open Now Until Oct. 21 at www.Facebook.com/BestofCollegeFootball
CHICAGO – Voting for the Enterprise Rent-A-Car "Best Under-the-Radar NCAA Football Atmosphere" opened today. Northern Arizona University is one of seven schools that were selected as finalists, with the winner to be completely fan-determined through Facebook voting at www.Facebook.com/BestofCollegeFootball. Fans can vote once per day until Oct. 21. The winning school will be featured in "Best of College Football" which airs Nov. 29 on CBS.
The seven finalists hail from FBS, FCS, D-II and D-III and boast rocking crowds, passionate fan bases, storied traditions, and pre- and post-game parties that rival any football program in the nation. Each finalist produced a video showcasing why the atmosphere at its home stadium belongs in the national spotlight. Watch the videos, view pictures, and vote for your favorite at www.Facebook.com/BestofCollegeFootball. The seven finalists are:
- Colorado State-Pueblo ThunderWolves – Pueblo, Colo.
- After a 24-year hiatus, football returned to CSU-Pueblo in 2008. Since then, the ThunderWolves are a perennial national championship contender, ranked #1 in the nation in 2011 and 2012, and playing to capacity crowds each week. Pack Football features tailgates, the weekly "Pack Walk" of the ThunderWolves players through campus, the emergence of the team from the Wolf Head tunnel, and most importantly, one of the most raucous fan bases in the nation.
- Delaware Blue Hens – Newark, Del.
- Delaware Stadium is home to the Blue Hen State of Mind. The 20,000-plus seat landmark is full of memories and traditions, with great tailgating and exciting games through the years, spanning generations of families and friends. Delaware fans have flocked in mass to support their team even when the Blue Hens played at their former home, University of Delaware's Frazier Field. Today is no different as the community support and school spirit at Delaware holds firm and gives the Hens one of the greatest home field advantages in all of college football.
- Northern Arizona Lumberjacks – Flagstaff, Ariz.
- Game days feature Fan Fest: an event with face painting, video games, rock walls and much more excitement for fans of all ages, making NAU the place to be. Fans are encouraged to tailgate and then bring their energy inside the Walkup Skydome. NAU's biggest tradition is the Freshmen Run which takes place at the first home game of every season when all freshmen are invited to lead the team out on to the field. This season more than 2,000 students participated in the run, making it the most successful Run to date.
- Northern Illinois Huskies – DeKalb, Ill.
- No event brings Northern Illinois fans, alumni, and students together like Huskie Football. Whether on a sun-splashed fall Saturday, or a wintry Wednesday night, NIU fans create a special atmosphere that has led to Huskie Stadium being named the toughest place to win in the country. From the large group parties in the Tent-a-Gate area to students meeting and eating on the East Side and kids playing on inflatable games in the FanFest, the air is filled with celebration, anticipation, and Huskie Pride.
- Ohio Bobcats – Athens, Ohio
- The past few seasons, the Bobcats have established itself as one of the top mid-major programs in the country. During that time, Ohio football fans have taken notice and have made the Bobcats' game-day atmosphere one of the best in the country, garnering a 22-5 home record since 2009. The past two seasons, Ohio football has led the Mid-American Conference in attendance, making Peden Stadium an intimidating place for opponents to play. From gameday giveaways to the annual Bobcat Blackout, Peden Stadium has become the place to be in Southeast Ohio for college football.
- Sam Houston State Bearkats – Huntsville, Texas
- There are not many college venues in the state of Texas where fans can see a championship caliber football team play on a weekly basis. Bowers Stadium seats nearly 13,000, but feels like a lot more when at capacity. Home to the nation's longest home winning streak of 18 games, the fans play a big part, especially the student section which is positioned right behind the visiting team bench.
- Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks – Whitewater, Wisc.
- Football game day at UW-Whitewater isn't just another day; it's THE day on campus. Fans tailgate for hours before kick-off, students paint their bodies, the crowd jingles its keys for kickoffs, and everyone goes wild when the Warhawks take the field. No matter the weather, opponent, or time of day, UW-W packs the stands on Saturdays to watch their team run out of the tunnel to "Pound the Rock".
In addition to featuring the Best Under-the-Radar NCAA Football Atmosphere, "Best of College Football" will relive the season's greatest moments, players and coaches, as well as uncover the top plays of the year as voted on by fans.
