Davis, Patton to Take Part in ProHoops WNBA Combine
/ April 05, 2013
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Senior women's basketball players Aubrey Davis and Amy Patton will put their talents on display this Saturday at the ProHoops Combine in New Orleans, site of the 2013 Women's Final Four. Patton and Davis will take part in the invitation-only camp in front of WNBA coaches and personnel in hopes of continuing their basketball careers on the professional level.
"I'm looking just to play and have fun and I'm treating it like I used to when I went to other school's basketball camps," said Patton, NAU's all-time leading scorer and rebounder. "It's a way to showcase your talents, so in a way I feel like I'm starting all over but it will be fun. I'm excited; I've been playing for so long so I just want to continue it."
The all-day event runs from 9:30 to 4:30 with the invited athletes playing six to seven games. The attendees will also have the opportunity to talk with all of the scouts following the tryouts and can assess what options they may have to continue their basketball careers.
"I feel like I have nothing to lose so I just want to go try out and see where it takes me," Davis said. "There will be a lot of scouts there so hopefully I can get a chance to keep playing basketball."
Davis and Patton have been working out together and playing pickup games since the end of NAU's season in preparation for the combine, and both feel that having a teammate there will make the event a lot more enjoyable.
"It will be a lot more fun having one of my teammates out there," Patton said. "We've been working out and playing together so it will be nice to have someone out there that I'm used to playing with."
The ProHoops Combine is run by WNBA coaches Linda Hargrove and Jessie Kenlaw and is among the premiere free agent camps showcasing players to WNBA coaches and general managers. The camp is designed to give selected college seniors and other free agents the opportunity to showcase their talents before the WNBA draft, which will take place on April 15.
