Wilkinson and Bauman – A Friendship Meant to Last

Some people may wonder how a defensive lineman from Las Vegas and a running back from Chandler, Ariz., managed to become good friends and stay roommates for all four years of college, but to Tim Wilkinson and Zach Bauman it was easy. They just simply got along.

Wilkinson came to Northern Arizona after being a three-year letterwinner and starter at Bishop Gorman High School. He earned all-state and all-region honors, while helping Bishop Gorman to division, conference and state titles in 2007 and 2009.

Bauman had almost an identical resume, as he was a two-year letterwinner and starter at Hamilton High School. He was a two-time all-region and second team all-state selection for Hamilton, helping his team earn back-to-back state championships during his high school playing career.

So, when they both stepped foot on campus, it was only natural for Wilkinson and Bauman to become roommates. If you mix in their high school accolades, along with their personality the two become a solid pair.

"We actually had different roommates to start camp (they both laughed), but by the time camp was over we ended up switching," said Wilkinson.

Tim proclaims that Zach is cool, funny and very hardworking.

"To us he's really confident, but to everyone else he lets his performance speak for itself," said Wilkinson.

When Zach was asked to describe Tim's personality, you would have thought they were twins.

"Tim is pretty much the same as me," said Bauman. "He's really laid back. Tim's the hardest working guy on the team. You will never hear him talk about himself. He'll let someone else talk about his game."

The pair has experienced all four years of college together. The long days at practice, mixed with the stress of exams and the other highs and lows that college brings, takes their relationship full circle.

So what is it that entertains Tim and Zach during their down time?

"At home, it's Call of Duty," said Bauman. "We're playing zombies, dominoes or just hanging and watching TV, but we play dominoes a lot."

With their personalities almost parallel, one must wonder that if they share the same living quarters, "Who's the better cook?"

Tim thinks that he's the better cook out of the two, but Zach proclaims that he's "hands down" the better breakfast chef.

As the two embark on their final year as roommates, they both ensure that there will be plenty of memorable moments that will last a lifetime.

"I just think about it as Zach going to pursue his dreams," said Wilkinson. "No matter what, he's been my dude for four years, and we have a solid bond. We don't have to be around each other every day to keep our friendship going."

When asked how they have been able to last as roommates these past few years, Tim replied with, "It's our family. I feel like we come from the same kind of background. We were raised the same so we get along easily."

With their easy going personalities and good sense of humors, it looks like Wilkinson and Bauman have a friendship that's meant to last.
