FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Arizona will have a two-game home stand this week as they face two non-conference opponents in Grand Canyon and Colorado State. This will be the first time Northern Arizona and Grand Canyon have faced each other since Grand Canyon made the jump to Division I. This will be games two and three of a five-game home stand for the Lumberjacks.
Series
This will only be the second meeting between Northern Arizona and Grand Canyon since 1997, which NAU won 5-2. This will be the first meeting ever between Northern Arizona and Colorado State.
Scouting Northern Arizona
NAU has been locking down their opponents allowing just one goal over their last three games. In 490 minutes of play, senior goalkeeper Lauren Weaver has only allowed three goals this season, which gives her a 0.55 goals against average. In last Friday's game, the Lumberjacks were able to hold UNLV scoreless for 110 minutes, who had 12 goals in just 5 games this season. NAU still remains in first place in the Big Sky Conference and have yet to be defeated. Senior defender Alana D'Onofrio was named this week's Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week.
Scouting Grand Canyon
Grand Canyon has traveled all over the country to start out their season with a 1-4-0 record. They have traveled to California, Indiana and Colorado in just five games this season. This will be their first game in the state of Arizona. Although only scoring one goal this season from Cassie Beckwith, the Antelopes have put up 40 shots this season with Jessica Fitzgerald leading the way with 7 shots. Goalkeeper Lena Catherine has been solid for Grand Canyon recording 17 saves on the year with a 1.52 goals against average. Grand Canyon joins the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) this season, after making the jump to Division I.
Scouting Colorado State
Colorado State has had a tough schedule to start out the season with three matches in the state of Texas including facing Texas Tech who is ranked #24 in the nation. The Rams are 1-3-0 on the season and every game they have lost, they have been shut out. The Rams have three goals this season from three different players in Erika Bratschun, Sasha Pchenitchnikova and Carly Seib. The Ram have posted 40 shots this season with 12 on goal.
