Women's Tennis off to Tucson

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona women's tennis team will compete in their second fall tournament of the season as they travel to the University of Arizona for the UofA Invitational.

"I expect a huge improvement from our tournament in Vegas," said head coach Kim Bruno. "I think our first tournament was an eye-opener of the level they need to play at."

Three new Lumberjacks saw their first collegiate action on the court two weeks ago at the UNLV Fall Invite where they faced some tough competition. The Lumberjacks faced some top of the line players from schools like Long Beach State, UNLV, Mississippi State, Texas State and Marquette.

"There was a high-level of tennis at our first tournament and it will be the same at UofA," said Bruno. "These tournaments are supposed to be tough because our spring schedule will be just as tough. They need to realize that they have to step up their game and compete."

Making her debut for the Lumberjacks is Marta Lewandoska and will play in one of the top flights in the tournament as the entire NAU team will not be traveling this week.

"Marta has been doing very well in practices," said Bruno. "The talent is there for her (Marta) they just need to put the pieces together and get some positive results."

Play begins today and will last throughout Sunday.
