Lumberjack Golf Faces Big Sky Competition at Ron Moore Intercollegiate
/ October 08, 2014
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Arizona women's golf is coming off a two week break to take on the Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate hosted by Denver University. The tournament kicks off on Friday, Oct. 10 and runs through Sunday. Each round tees off at 7:30 a.m. Flagstaff time.
The Lumberjacks made a strong showing at their last tournament, the Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate. The 'Jacks improved on each round at the tournament to walk away in a tie with the Big Sky's Southern Utah for fifth place. Northern Arizona topped Southern Utah in the final two rounds. They also met and beat Montana State and Sacramento State in the desert.
This week, the Lumberjacks are faced with more Big Sky competition in Denver including Northern Colorado, North Dakota and Montana State. In their first meeting with Montana State – the Hobble Creek Fall Classic in September – the 'Jacks finished 10th to the Bobcats tie for fifth. At the Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate last week, Northern Arizona had a fifth-place tie compared to Montana State's 14th place finish. This weekend marks the first meeting the 'Jacks have with Northern Colorado and North Dakota this season.
Northern Arizona will also be pitted against host Denver, Nebraska, Kansas, Kansas State, Georgetown, Long Beach State, North Dakota State and Wyoming.
Wyoming is the only other team Northern Arizona has faced earlier this season. At the Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate – which Wyoming hosted – the Cowgirls were 10th.
"I like the team and they're working hard," said Head Coach Brad Bedortha. "We just need to continue to work on the things we've been doing and continue to get better. Hopefully the results will pay off as we move along."
