NAU Kicks Off Emerald Coast Classic Play at Ole Miss

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona men's basketball team will play at Ole Miss in the first game of the Emerald Coast Classic. Tip-off at C.M. "Tad" Smith Coliseum is set for 6 p.m. AZ/7 p.m. CT.

NAU is coming off a 73-52 victory over Fresno State on Thursday to win its home opener. Senior guard Aaseem Dixon drilled 30 points as the Lumberjacks earned their first ever win over the Bulldogs. NAU looks to capture its first road win of the season as it embarks on a four-game road trip.

NAU and Ole Miss will face off for the first time in school history. The game is a part of the Emerald Coast Classic. The Lumberjacks will play at Middle Tennessee State on Tuesday and then head to Fort Walton Beach, Fla. to continue play in the four-game tournament.  

The game will be televised live on the SEC Network. Please check your local listings for channel information. Northern Arizona Facts

Quinton Upshur leads NAU in scoring after three games with an average of 14.0 points per game, good enough to rank amongst the top in the Big Sky. In his senior debut, Upshur netted 20 points at Xavier to lead all scorers. He's registered double figures in both of NAU's previous games. The Norfolk, Va. native has hit eight three-pointers this season and is shooting 41.7 percent from the floor.

Jordyn Martin is averaging 7.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.

• Senior center Len Springs recorded 58 blocked shots last season to lead the Big Sky. It tied for the third-most in a single season by an NAU player. He currently has seven so far this season.

• NAU is shooting 37.2 percent from the floor and 70 percent from the free throw line.

• The Lumberjacks rank in the top three in the Big Sky in three-point field goals made (7.0) and assists (11.7).

 

Scouting Fresno State

Head coach Andy Kennedy is in his ninth season with Ole Miss. Kennedy is 173-102 with the Rebels and 194-115 overall in 10 seasons.

• Ole Miss loss its first season opener since 2003 when it fell to Charleston Southern, 66-65, in overtime on Nov. 14. The Rebels rebounded with a 74-64 win at Troy.

• Ole Miss returns four starters from last year's squad led by senior guard Jarvis Summers.

Jarvis Summers was voted the Preseason SEC Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference by CBSSports.com. In three games, Jarvis is Ole Miss' leading scorer with 11.7 points per game and 13 assists. He netted a season-high 21 points in the win over Troy.
