TUCSON, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona divers completed another successful day in Tucson on Saturday at the Wildcat Diving Invitational. The Lumberjacks placed a pair of divers – junior Chelsea Jackson and sophomore Alexa Geiger – in the finals of the 1-meter springboard as the team battled through a little fatigue to post successful results on day two of competition.

"Overall the team performed very well," said diving coach Nikki Huffman. "It was a day where we were a little tired, but they fought and showed a lot of character. Lex dove very consistent and she was very strong and she had a great day. Chelsea dove really well, but missed a couple of dives. She kept fighting through, did just enough to get into the finals and then improved to sixth place."

Geiger was NAU's top diver in the preliminaries as she qualified for her first final of the weekend after a fifth-place score of 253.65. Jackson joined her in the final following a prelim score of 237.90 that secured her the ninth and final championship spot. Once in the finals, Jackson – making her second appearance of the weekend – posted a score of 239.40 that was good for her to move up three spots for a sixth-place overall finish. Geiger posted a finals score of 237.50 and finished eighth.

Junior Carlye Townsend narrowly missed out on the consolation finals for the second straight day. After coming up four points short of the 3-meter consolation on Friday, Townsend finished 20th in the 1-meter preliminaries on Saturday missing the consolation by six points with a score of 211.25.

Freshman Alyssa Loeffelman posted her second top 25 finish of the weekend, posting a score of 204.25 to place 22nd and freshman Emma Simmonds rounded out NAU's divers with a score of 170.05 to finish 33rd.

"Carlye Townsend and Alyssa Loeffelman both dove really consistently today," Huffman said. "Emma Simmonds had one really bad dive but she came back really strong after that."

NAU wraps up the Wildcat Diving Invitational on Sunday for the third and final day of competition. For the first time this season, the Lumberjacks will compete on platform, as the day will start at 11 a.m.
