FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Arizona University's track & field team completed day two of competition at the Big Sky Outdoor Championship. Mirroring her performance during the conference indoor championship, Jade Childs finished third in the women's heptathlon thanks to a career-best 4974 points.
"Jade is a gamer," said director of track & field and cross country Eric Heins. "No matter what she does during the regular season you can always count on her to step up around conference time."
Childs went into the final day of competition in the heptathlon in fourth place. The sophomore was in need of some clutch performances in order to make up ground and garner a spot on the podium.
Childs opened up the day with a third place finish in the long jump posting a best jump of 18-10 (5.74m) on the day. Following the long jump, Childs then proceeded to the infield to compete in the javelin throw. Childs showed up in the clutch; her final throw of 108-01 (32.95) was good for a new career-best and a fifth place finish in the event.
The final event of the day was the women's heptathlon 800m run. Childs was in need of a solid performance in order to secure a third place podium spot. The sophomore finished 10th in the 800m run with a time of 2:34.96, good for a season-best.
"I'm very happy with today," said Childs. "Yesterday was kind of a disappointment but I came out here with a good attitude and it worked out for me. "
