Swimming & Diving Adds Late Season Double-Dual in Las Vegas

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona swimming & diving team has secured a double-dual against Mountain West Conference foes UNLV and Wyoming in Las Vegas, Nev. on Jan. 31 announced by head coach Andy Johns on Tuesday.

The meet will be a welcomed and necessary addition to the team's schedule as a final preparation for the WAC Championships a month later. Prior to the addition of the meet, the Lumberjacks' final schedule dual meet would have been their home finale against Northern Colorado on Jan. 7.

"It's very important for us to be racing at that time of year as we get ready for the WAC Championships," Johns said. "For us to be able to travel fairly close and get two quality opponents is really helpful. It's going to be good to see how our winter training pays off and racing against some of the better teams we have on the schedule, with the exception of Arizona and Oregon State, is a great thing leading into the conference meet."

Wyoming finished the last season fourth in the Mountain West while UNLV finished seventh. The Lumberjacks have not competed against Wyoming in a dual-meet setting since the 2000-01 season and is 7-1 all-time versus the Cowgirls. NAU and UNLV last met in a dual meet four seasons ago, and while the Lumberjacks have found success against the Cowgirls, NAU has not defeated the Rebels in 18 previous meets.

The NAU divers will be competing at the Air Force Diving Invitational from Jan. 29-31, as will the divers from Wyoming and UNLV. Scores from the invitational will be pulled and added to the final dual meet totals with the swimmers' scores.

NAU is back in the pool on Friday, Oct. 10 in the Wall Aquatic Center with its annual Blue vs. Gold meet.
