Lumberjacks Hold at No. 2 in Third National Cross Country Poll

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Northern Arizona men's cross country has held on to their No. 2 spot in the USTFCCCA coaches' poll for the third week. 2013 champion Colorado remains No. 1.

The poll has remained mostly stagnant for the first three weeks. Top-teams, including the 'Jacks, have yet to reveal their final line-ups in competition. Matt McElroy is the only returner from last year's national team to suit-up for the Lumberjacks so far this season. Futsum Zienasellassie ran unattached at George Kyte along with top-transfers Tyler Byrne from Louisville and Cory Glines from Michigan. Last weekend, Northern Arizona tested its depth by running the second-half of its roster at the Dave Murray Invitational in Tucson. They were second as a team and finished three in the top-10.

The Lumberjacks will bring it all together on Oct. 4 for the University of Washington Invitational. At UW, they'll face No. 3 Oregon and reigning national champion Edward Cheserek as well Stanford, Portland, Indiana, Villanova and Virginia all from inside the top-15.

No. 1 Colorado hosts the Rocky Mountain Shootout on Oct. 4, but its first test won't come until NCAA Pre-Nationals on Oct. 18. Pre-Nationals are also going to be the first glimpse of No. 4 Oklahoma State, the 2012 national champion.
