FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona volleyball team honored the winningest senior class in school history prior to Saturday's match, then tacked on another victory to their school-record long win streak. The 'Jacks bounced back from a first set loss and dispatched Portland State easily in the final two sets to win their 14th straight match, 22-25, 25-20, 25-13, 25-15.

NAU wrapped up its first unbeaten regular season at home, completing a perfect 11-0 home schedule, which will be a welcome sight as the Rolle Activity Center will be host of next week's Big Sky Championships. The 11 wins also ties a school record for most home wins in a season.

Saturday's win was NAU's 25th this season and the 'Jacks (25-4 overall) will have the opportunity to tie the school record – and exceed it – during the conference tournament.

"It's pretty hard to put into words," said head coach Ken Murphy. "The amount of work we put in to get to this place; you hope when you work that hard and you're that invested in your teammates, you get results like this. It's special when it actually happens."

The Lumberjacks completed the Big Sky schedule with a 15-1 record, tying the school record for most conference wins in a season; although the 2012 team played four extra matches to post a 15-5 Big Sky record.

Seniors Payton Bock, Jordan Leiter, Janae Vander Ploeg and Stacia Williams were greeted by a season-best crowd in the Rolle of 836. However, after a heart-warming pre-match ceremony including leis flown fresh from Hawaii and family members gathering on the court, the Vikings spoiled the party momentarily by taking the first set.

NAU took the lead 19-17 with four straight points – the last two coming off blocks by Bock – but the lead would not last for long. The two teams were tied at 22-22 until the Vikings stunned the 'Jacks with the last three points.

Portland State appeared poised to play spoiler, jumping out to a 9-6 lead in the second set until junior Addy Lofstedt turned the tide with a kill. That started a five-point surge that put NAU in front 11-9, and the 'Jacks pulled away with a four-point run that provided them with a comfortable 16-11 lead. Junior Lauren Jacobsen finished the set with a kill and the teams headed into the locker room knotted up at one set apiece.

Following the intermission, it would be all Lumberjacks as the home team had their engines revved up. Four of the Vikings' 11 attack errors in the third set gave NAU an early 4-0 lead and the Lumberjacks would not be stopped. A 6-0 run, which included three more attack errors by Portland State, pushed NAU's lead to double-digits at 19-8 as NAU kept PSU at below zero hitting (-.021) to take a 2-1 lead.

Jacobsen and Bock started the fourth set with kills and NAU never trailed for the second straight game in winning the match. Junior Jensen Barton had the offense clicking to a .485 clip, while Bock put down six kills in the set. Barton herself had four kills as did Vander Ploeg.

"We have this incredible ability that I've never seen on any team I've played on or played against where we can be down one set, two sets or even a couple of points and bounce back," Leiter said. "The last two games is the type of team we are and that's the type of team we always strive to be especially when we're down."

A big reason for NAU's dominance in the final two sets was its blocking. If the Lumberjacks were not roofing the Vikings, with six blocks in the final two sets, they were altering swings that resulted in attacks going long. NAU totaled 13.0 team blocks on the night and Portland State hit only .112 in the match.

Bock had her best offensive match of the season on Senior Night, finishing with a season-high 14 kills and hitting .440. She also recorded nine blocks.

Vander Ploeg totaled 16 kills and became just the third Lumberjack to tally 500 kills in a season. Her 16 brought her season count to 513, the second-highest season total in school history and just 11 kills shy of the season record. She also added 13 digs for her 44th career double-double, putting her in sole possession of fifth all-time.

Jacobsen and Barton set new career-highs on the night. Jacobsen recorded 19 digs, and also notched a double-double with 11 kills, and Barton dumped in nine kills. She hit .562 and added 41 assists and six digs. Williams and Leiter starred in the backline with Williams posting 16 digs and Leiter recording 11.

NAU hit .267 for the match and posted advantages in kills (56-50), aces (3-0), digs (69-68) and blocks (13.0-7.0).

The Lumberjacks now turn their focus to the Big Sky Championships starting Thursday. For the first time in school history, NAU will host the conference tournament.

"We like playing at home and our fans give us a lot of energy and confidence," Murphy said. "It's not going to be easy, and we know it's going to be difficult. At the same time, we know we have an advantage playing here and all the work we've put in this season to get this advantage will pay off next week."

The top-seeded Lumberjacks will host eighth-seeded Southern Utah at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the last of four quarterfinal matches.

The entire Thursday schedule is below:

Match 1: No. 2 Idaho vs. No. 7 North Dakota – 10:30 a.m.
