ASU Invite Final Results

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona University women's tennis team wrapped up its fall campaign this weekend (Nov . 13-15) at the Arizona State University Thunderbird Invite. Given the pool of high-caliber programs attending, Head Coach Kim Bruno wanted to come out of the weekend with a few wins, and the Lumberjacks did exactly that. Emelia Box, Marta Lewandowska and Hailey Rochin all picked up a win in singles play and doubles pair Rochin/Lewandowska took down Lyann Hoang and Stephanie Linn from the University of California 9-7.

Other teams in attendance were Arizona State, University of Texas, University of San Diego, University of Michigan, University of Minnesota, Fresno State University and Cal. In the round of 32, Lewandowska started her weekend on a high note as she ousted Michigan's Kara Hall 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. Lewandowska lost to the eventual tournament champion and No. 1 seed Desirae Krawczyk from ASU in the following round of 16.

Box and Rochin also faced players from Michigan in the first round, but earned their wins over San Diego and Minnesota, respectively. Box took down Dana Oppinger 7-6(6), 6-2 while Rochin defeated Mehvish Safdar 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 on Saturday, Nov. 14.

If the fall season as a whole has been any indication of what is to come for Northern Arizona, Bruno and her squad are surely on the right track. The 'Jacks have faced the best of the best over the last few months as they prepare for the spring season to begin in January.
