NAU Men's Tennis Closes out Fall Campaign at Grand Canyon Invite

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona University men's tennis team closed out its fall season at the Grand Canyon Invite this past weekend (Nov. 6-8) and brought home nine singles wins, three from freshman Tim Handel, and four doubles wins. Handel alongside Schumann sealed the doubles consolation championship on Sunday, Nov. 8, posting a 3-1 doubles record on the weekend.
Handel kicked off the weekend with his first of three wins against Felix Schueller from Grand Canyon University in the opening Round of 16. Despite falling to the eventual tournament champion Joshua Sheehy from Abilene Christian University (ACU) in the singles quarterfinals, Handel snagged wins in his next two matches. He took down Air Force Academy's (AFA) Andrew Parks 4-6, 6-2, (10-6) and Jack McCullers in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 to finish out the weekend.
Handel and Schumann also posted a winning record in doubles play, securing the consolation championship and winning two matches prior. The duo took down Tadhg Collins/ Isaac Perez (AFA) 6-4, Jason Proctor/Sheehy (ACU) 7-5 and lastly Justin Cvitanovic and Schueller in the finals 6-3.
Harun Ajanovic also notched two wins in Flight 3 of singles play as did Jackson Lee in Flight 2. This landed both Lumberjacks in the consolation championship round of their respective flights.
