Lumberjacks Open 2015-16 Track and Field Season at Hoosier Open
/ December 10, 2015
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona University track and field team will officially begin its 2015-16 season tomorrow at the Hoosier Open hosted by Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind.
The team will only be traveling with four distance runners—Futsum Zienasellassie, Kayla Freeman, Cory Glines and Paige Gilchrist—to compete in the event's 5,000m (5K) race at Indiana's Gladstein Fieldhouse. Caleb Hoover will also be competing at the event, but will register and race as an unattached athlete.
The Lumberjacks are looking to follow up another impressive track and field campaign that they put together last season. The men are coming off their eighth-consecutive conference title—winning four-straight conference champions in indoor and outdoor—while the women earned a third-place mark at conference indoor and a fourth-place finish at conference outdoor last season. Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Eric Heins was also named men's Big Sky Indoor and Outdoor Coach of the Year, the fourth-consecutive honor on each side for Heins.
