NAU Drops 84-57 Decision on the Road at Little Rock

Box Score LITTLE ROCK, Ark.- Northern Arizona showed improvement in the second half, but it wasn't enough as the Lumberjacks fell to undefeated Little Rock 84-57 at the Jack Stephens Center.
"Little Rock is a very good ball club," said head coach Jack Murphy. "We know we're playing a difficult schedule, but we can't keep fighting back every game. The second half I thought we played much better. We got great looks against a very good defensive team; we just have to make the shots. We have to play hard and be aggressive."
The Trojans, 10-0, shot 50 percent for the game to earn the win at home. All of Little Rock's double figure scorers came form the bench, as it had a 58-point production to stop NAU.
The Lumberjacks (2-8) found themselves down 44-23 on the road at Little Rock at halftime. Ako Kaluna led NAU with eight points and a pair of rebounds, while the Lumberjacks as a team shot 30.4 percent from the floor.
NAU was down by as many as 22 points with seven seconds to go in the first half. The Trojans connected on 17 field goals, five of which were from long range, as they controlled the majority of the game during the half.
The second half saw a much better output for the Lumberjacks, as NAU recorded 11 field goals and went 9 of 10 from the charity stripe. Torry Johnson came alive in the second half putting up 10 points, while Marcus DeBerry and Kris Yanku added eight points. Yanku went on to finish with a team-high 13 points, in addition to six rebounds and six assists.
The Trojans, the nation's best scoring defense team, kept NAU to under 37 percent from the floor for the game, including edging the 'Jacks in rebounds 43-30.
Little Rock dished out 20 assists as a team and went 10 of 16 from the free throw line to keep its undefeated streak in tact.
NAU returns to the court on Tuesday for its final non-conference game of the season. The Lumberjacks will tip off at 6 p.m. at Tulsa. The game can be seen live on ESPN3.
