Flagstaff, Ariz. - The Northern Arizona track and field team added four new Big Sky qualifiers tonight at the NAU Invitational and the Iowa State Classic.
Caleb Potts picked up his first qualifying mark of the season tonight at the NAU Invitational when he finished second in the men's 800m with a time of 1:54.93.
Also at the NAU Invitational, Shamelle Pless, Alexander Odem and Jessica Weise all picked up top-three finishes. Pless was second in the women's 200m, the event she won a Big Sky Championship for last year. She'll be competing in it again at the championships later this month. Odem finished third in the men's triple jump with a distance of 14.01m, and Weise was second in the shot put with a distance of 15.05m. She has finished in the top-two of the weight throw at every meet this season.
At the Iowa State Classic, Taryn Treadway and Lauren Justus crushed the Big Sky 5000m qualifying mark with their times of 17:16 and 17:18. Tyler Byrne battled a tough heat in the men's 5000m to also pick up a qualifying mark of 14:34.27 in that event.
"Our athletes love to compete at Big Sky, and I think they're ready for it," said Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Eric Heins on his team's readiness to host the Big Sky Championships later this month. "Our goal is to always be in contention, and they are prepared for the pressure that comes with that."
The Iowa State Classic and the NAU Invitational continue tomorrow in Ames, Iowa and the Walkup Skydome. Live results from Iowa State are available here and NAU Invitational results are available here
