Full Speed Ahead: Jamison Hits Huge Personal Best at NAU Tune-Up

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Senior Vernon Jamison hit a huge personal best in the men's 60m hurdles with his second-place - first among collegiate competitors - time of 7.80. His converted time (7.84) ranks second all-time in school history, leads the Big Sky and currently ranks 20th in the nation.

"The highlight of the night was definitely Vernon Jamison coming close to breaking the school record," said Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Eric Heins. "Its a lifetime best and a top 20 time in the country. He had a subpar week last week, and because he is such a great student athlete, he was able to regroup and do as well as he did tonight."

On the women's side, Nicole Fotinos knocked a second off her personal best time in the women's 400m clocking in at 56.59. She finished first and currently ranks 14th in the conference. If that holds, she'll be competing at the Big Sky Indoor Championships next weekend.

In the 800m, Emily Bartz hit the automatic qualifying mark with her winning time of 2:13.61 and Michael Chin hit it on the men's side with his winning time of 1:54.29.

For the 3000m, Futsum Zienasellassie and Melanie Townsend both hit Big Sky qualifying marks. Zienasellassie ran a converted time of 7:57.00 to further lead the conference. Townsend won the 3000m with a time of 10:03.14. While she was previously qualified in the 5000m, this was her first time hitting the 3000m mark.

In the women's weight throw, Jessica Weise hit her first standard of the year in the women's weight throw. She finished fifth with a distance of 17.51m. She leads conference in the women's shot put. Brooke Andersen also picked up a standard in the weight throw, finishing third with a distance of 17.61m. She ranks fifth in the conference with her distance of 18.05m from the Mountain T's Invitational.

The Lumberjacks host the Big Sky Indoor Championships next week in the Walkup Skydome from February 26-28.
