FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – After a week off from play, the Northern Arizona women's tennis team is back on the road as they travel up to Grand Forks for two matches against North Dakota and South Dakota State. The Lumberjacks are still searching for their first win of the season after facing some tough opponents. NAU's last road trip was against some of the best teams in the country in No. 23 South Carolina and the University of New Mexico. Senior Johanna Vang looks to carry momentum from her last match as she was named Big Sky Conference Player of the Week on Jan. 27. The honor was her second of her career as she defeated New Mexico's Emily Olivier, who was ranked No. 6 in the ITA Mountain Region. This will be the first Big Sky match for the Lumberjacks this season as NAU goes into the season picked to finish fourth in the conference.
Series
This will be the third time Northern Arizona and North Dakota will meet as the Lumberjacks have won the past two matches. NAU will face South Dakota State for the first time in school history as the school's square off in a neutral match.
Scouting North Dakota
North Dakota will play its fourth match of the season when it squares off with the Lumberjacks. Last season UND finished ninth in the Big Sky and were once again picked to finish ninth in the conference this year. North Dakota's top returner from last year's squad is senior Callie Ronkowski, who was a Second Team All-Big Sky selection in 2014.
Scouting South Dakota State
When South Dakota State faces the Lumberjacks, it will be the Jackrabbits fifth straight match on the road to start out the season. Sophomore Iasmin Rosa leads South Dakota early in the season with a perfect 3-0 record in singles play. In doubles, Rosa has partnered with Ffion Davies to go 2-0 this season with wins against Butler and Toledo.
