Challenge Complete: NAU Dominates North Dakota in 88-63 Victory

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Another team effort by Northern Arizona as it dominated North Dakota today at the Walkup Skydome to earn the 88-63 win. The Lumberjacks had three players score in double figures as it earned its first ever win over UND at home.
"I think the guys played well today," said head coach Jack Murphy. "They have really been going hard in practice, so it's nice to see that same intensity in the game. We limited our turnovers and passed the ball well. It's always good when multiple players can get hot and that's what happened. Today was definitely one of our best home games this year."
NAU (12-11, 7-3 Big Sky) played a complete game once again to win its fourth straight game. The Lumberjacks committed just five turnovers and converted 25 of 31 free throws to capture the victory.
In the first half, the Lumberjacks shot 55.2 percent from the floor, senior guards Aaseem Dixon and Quinton Upshur had 15 points apiece, and NAU found itself up 53-27. NAU's largest lead of the half came with 10 seconds to go after Upshur hit a free throw. When NAU went up by double figures with 6:21 to go in the first, it never took a step back.
Riding the wave of the first half, the Lumberjacks began the second half with a three-pointer by Dixon. Emerging with Dixon in the second had was sophomore guard Kris Yanku, who finished with a team-high 24 points in addition to nine assists and six rebounds. Yanku made 14 of 16 free throw attempts and attacked the paint as UND didn't seem to have a play in the book to keep him from scoring.
UND made its way to the free throw line 32 times converting on 25 attempts. It may have given UND an edge with the clock stopped, but it did not deter NAU's mission to stay calm and keep pushing.
From the 10-minute mark on, it truly was a battle at the free throw line. NAU made 11 of 12 attempts and UND was seven of 10.
Unfortunately for UND, NAU had many answers from different players as North Dakota lost its first game ever in the Walkup Skydome.
Dixon finished with 19 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Upshur had 15 points going 5 of 6 from the charity stripe.
Jordyn Martin finished with 10 rebounds. As a team, NAU shot 41.7 percent from the floor and 80.6 percent from the free throw line. The Lumberjacks out-rebounded UND 48 to 38.
Leading the way for UND (8-14, 4-7 Big Sky) was Quinton Hooker with 11 points. Both Jaran Nash and Lenny Antwi notched 10 points apiece.
