Deante Kemper Wraps Up Record-Breaking Season with All-American Finish

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Senior Deante Kemper ended his indoor high jump career on a high note with an All-American finish at the NCAA Indoor National Championships today in Fayetteville, Ark.

Kemper cleared 2.10m, 2.15m and 2.20m on his first attempts before going out at 2.23m. He tied for fourth-place with James White of Nebraska and DJ Smith of Auburn. Top-jumper Jacorian Duffield won the event with a height of 2.29m.

"I wanted a lot more, but I'm definitely not mad about it," said Kemper. "It feels good going into the outdoor season. I got my name out there, and people will know that when I come, I'm going to bring it."

Kemper went into the meet ranked sixth in the nation with his school-record breaking height of 2.24m from the Iowa State Classic. At the Big Sky Championships, he picked up his fifth title in the high jump.

He has appeared in four NCAA outdoor championships, but this was his first trip to the indoor championships and his first All-American honor.

"He did well," said Assistant Coach Jade Ellis. "We were very happy with his execution of our game plan. He knew going into this competition that it was going to be different, but he went out and did really well."

Kemper will join the rest of his team as they kick-off the outdoor season next weekend at UC Irvine.
