NAU Begins Three-Match Weekend in Flagstaff

Northern Arizona (2-8, 0-0 Big Sky) vs. Idaho (10-4, 3-0 Big Sky)

Northern Arizona at Northern Colorado (4-9, 1-4 Big Sky)  

Date: Sunday, March 22

Time: 10 a.m.

Location: Greeley, Colo. – Work Out West

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona men's tennis team has set their sights on conference play as the Lumberjacks welcome newcomer of the Big Sky Conference Idaho. This is not only the first home match of the season for NAU but also the first conference match of the year. The Lumberjacks home stand will not last long as NAU will head out on the road for its first two road matches in the Big Sky this season against North Dakota and Northern Colorado to close out the weekend.

Northern Arizona was picked to finish fifth in the conference in the preseason poll with Idaho selected as the top team in the Big Sky with five first-place votes. The Lumberjacks had one of their toughest non-conference schedules in recent history facing multiple nationally ranked teams. Leading the Lumberjacks in wins during non-conference play was Alexandre Locci and Adi Zilberstein with four victories each.

The Lumberjacks were impressive at home last year under first year head coach Ki Kroll posting a 5-1 record in Flagstaff and Sedona.

Series

The Lumberjacks will face off against Idaho for the 17th time in school history with an 11-5 record against the Vandals. NAU is 1-1 all-time against North Dakota and 12-1 versus Northern Colorado.

Scouting Idaho

The Vandals are has had a great start to their 2015 campaign with 10 wins, currently the most in the conference. In the three Big Sky matches the Vandals have played this season, they have won 15 of the 21 matches played. Leading Idaho in wins this season is Felipe Fonseca and Cristobal Ramos with 10 wins. Ramos and Jackson Varney have been the Vandals best duo in doubles with 11 wins.

Scouting North Dakota

North Dakota was picked to finish 11th in the Big Sky. Joe Lee and Ty Misialek lead North Dakota with five wins in singles play. Dustin Britton and Simon Danyluk are UND's best duo in doubles play with four wins on court four. North Dakota's last four matches were all conference matches, resulting in losses.

Scouting Northern Colorado

The Bears got their first Big Sky win of the season in their last conference match against Portland State. Northern Colorado was slotted at No. 8 in the Big Sky preseason poll. Austin Mayo and Ben Gendron lead UNC in wins this season with seven each in singles play. Eric Schuermans and Jacob Sheldon are Northern Colorado's leading duo in doubles with four wins on court three.
