'Jacks With A Strong Outdoor Opener at UC Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. - Northern Arizona track and field wrapped up its first outdoor meet of the 2015 season tonight with 10 top-finishes at the UC Irvine Spring Break Invitational.
After taking two years off, Adel al Nasser returned for the Big Sky Indoor Championships and won the 400m dash. Today, he posted the top time in the men's 400m, picking up the win there with a time of 47.80, a Big Sky standard.
James Fisher is also looking to defend his indoor 200m title this coming May. Today, he won that event with a standard time of 21.49.
Vernon Jamison finished second in the men's 110m hurdles today with a standard time of 14.24. Jamison won the 60m and 60m hurdles at the indoor championships and is also the reigning Big Sky Champion in the 110m hurdles.
After picking up the win in the hammer throw last night, Gus Margiotta finished second in the men's shot put with a distance of 17.06m, a Big Sky standard. Last month, he finished second in the shot put at the Big Sky Championships.
Shamelle Pless and Darriel Banks both picked up sprint wins today in Irvine. Pless posted the top time of 57.31 in the 400m while Banks won the 200m with 24.72.
Melanie Zibrat won the 800m with a time of 2:15.48. Alexis Clay won the women's long with a distance of 5.62m.
"This was a great way to start the outdoor season," said Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Eric Heins. "Going to California and getting out of Arizona is a great way to get both coaches and athletes into outdoor track mode. We've come to this meet for the past two years. Its good weather and good competition. We are at the point that we have the ability to win some events and lose some events and see what we need to adjust."
Up next, the 'Jacks head to the Texas Relays, held in Austin, Texas from March 26-28.
