FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Northern Arizona track and field heads to Southern California this weekend to compete at the Mt. SAC Relays and the Brian Clay Invitational.

The Northern Arizona throwers have been leading the Lumberjacks throughout the outdoor season with Brooke Andersen (hammer throw) and Julia Viberg (discus) both ranking in the top 10 of the nation in their respective events. They'll compete on Friday afternoon at Mt. SAC.

Kicking off the weekend at Mt. SAC will be Kylee Kieser, Taryn Treadway, Rolonda Jumbo and Heather LaPlante in the 10,000m tonight. Treadway - transfer from Boise State - had her career best of 36:23.41 at the Mt. SAC Relays in 2012. At last year's Big Sky Outdoor Championships, both Jumbo and Kieser contributed to the 'Jacks team title with their second- and fourth-place finishes. This weekend will mark LaPlante's first career 10,000m.

All of the Big Sky Championship sprinters will be at Mt. SAC. Darriel Banks is a two-time champion in the 60m dash and looks to improve on her third-place finish in the 100m last spring. James Fisher (200m) and Vernon Jamison (110m hurdles) both lead the conference and will compete at Mt. SAC. Fisher won the 200m at the championships while Jamison defended his 60m hurdles title and picked up a title in the 60m dash. Adel al Nasser won the 400m back in February and competes in that event on Friday afternoon.

From the nationally-ranked cross country team, Cody Reed and Alejandro Montano will represent the 'Jacks in the 5000m on Friday night.

"Every year, people from all across the country come to this meet," said Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Eric Heins. "It's looking like we'll have great weather. It'll be a good weekend."

At the Brian Clay Invitational, NCAA cross country qualifier Melanie Townsend will compete in the 1500m on Friday night while Emily Bartz - ranked second in the Big Sky - will run the 800m earlier that afternoon. Townsend will join teammates Paige Gilchrist and Lauren Justus in the 5000m also on Friday night.

Gus Margiotta ranks second in the conference in the shot put and will join third-ranked Shawn Collins in that event on Friday morning at Azusa Pacific.

Kicking things off for the 'Jacks at the Brian Clay Invitational is Margiotta, Andersen, Anna Padgett, Kadie McNamara and Tiana Hatler in the hammer throw on Thursday morning.
