'Jack Track Hits Big Marks in Southern California

WALNUT, Calif. - Northern Arizona track and field made a strong showing in Southern California today at the Mt. SAC Relays and the Bryan Clay Invitational.
At Mt. SAC, Brooke Andersen posted another huge mark in the hammer throw today, finishing first in that event with a distance of 63.19m. She ranks in the top 10 of the nation and hasn't finished lower than third at any meet this entire season.
James Fisher leads the Big Sky in two events after today. He posted a time of 10.49 in the men's 100m and a time of 21.10 in the 200m dash. Both were career-bests.
"Fisher ran an impeccable race today," said Associate Head Coach Kenny McDaniel following his 100m race. "Everything clicked for him at the right time."
Vernon Jamison extended his lead over the Big Sky with his time of 14.12 in the 110m hurdles. On the women's side, Shamelle Pless moved into the second spot in the Big Sky with her time of 24.22 in the 200m.
Cody Reed and Alejandro Montano wrapped up the the day for the 'Jacks at the Mt. SAC Relays with the 5000m. Reed posted a time of 14:10.72 while Montano posted 14.12.97. Both are Big Sky qualifying marks and will rank in the top five of the conference.
At the Bryan Clay Invitational, Nathan Weitz and Weston Strum both hit qualifying marks in the 1500m. Strum posted a time of 3:44.36 and Weitz posted 3:44.67. Currently, they're times rank second and third in the conference. On the women's side, Melanie Townsend picked up a time of 4:29.21, the second-best time in the conference.
Lauren Justus posted a time 17:09.54 in the 5000m, a career-best. Tiana Hatler is heading to the championships in the shot put with a distance of 14.34m.
The 'Jacks are off next week before they are at Southern Utah on Stanford the first weekend in May.
