FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – After a stellar four years at Northern Arizona, women's tennis Johanna Vang has been named to the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic First Team All-District 8 for her achievements in the classroom and on the tennis court. Vang is just one of 11 athletes to be named First Team from the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Canada. The 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-District At-Large Teams recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

"Johanna was outstanding in both athletics and academics," said head coach Kim Bruno. "She is the model of what NAU desires in a student-athlete and she deserves all of her accolades. I am honored to have been her coach."

The All-Dirstict 8 honor caps off an illustrious career for Vang as she earned All-Big Sky Honorable Mention, NAU's Golden Eagle Co-Female Scholar Athlete of the Year and is on pace for another All-Big Sky Academic selection all in her senior year. The native of Sweden finished at Northern Arizona University with a 4.0 GPA with a degree in marketing with a business economics certificate.

"It is an honor to receive this award and to represent NAU," said Vang. "I have always understood the importance of working hard in the classroom as well as on the court so to be recognized for that means a lot."

Vang is the only student-athlete to receive the honor from any school in the state of Arizona as well as the only athlete to be named to the All-District 8 Team from any school in the Big Sky Conference.

Vang was a three-year team captain for the NAU women's tennis team and is the seventh player in school history to earn four all-conference honors at the end of the season this spring. Vang ended her career with 44 singles wins and 49 career doubles wins. She was a SAAC representative for her team and is well on her way to being named to the Big Sky All-Academic team and receiving All-Academic honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for the fourth consecutive year.

Vang and the rest of the First-Team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third-team All-America honorees will be announced in early June.
