Undefeated: The Class of 2015 Leaves NAU with Eight-Straight Big Sky Track and Field Championships

CHENEY, Wash. - Most of the class of the 2015 finished their collegiate track and field career today, but for the Northern Arizona men's track and field team, they did so undefeated amongst the Big Sky as they picked up their fourth-straight Big Sky Outdoor title, eighth-straight Big Sky Track and Field title and their fourth-straight triple crown for winning the indoor, outdoor and cross country titles.

"It's hard to put into words," said Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Eric Heins. "To walk away with eight-straight titles is phenomenal for that group of seniors. Before they came, we were down and knew we needed to have a big recruiting year, and we had one. They've been such great competitors and also such great leaders. They've instilled in their younger teammates the mentality that the conference meet is when you show your best. It's an honor to have worked with them all."

They ended today in a tie with Sacramento State for the top prize, both schools earning 157 points. The Lumberjacks were behind by five points going into the final event - the 4x400m relay - but managed to come away with a win in that event by posting a season-best time of 3:09.56. The team - comprised of Vernon Jamison, James Fisher, Taylor Schneider and Adel al Nasser - combined for 12 medals at the meet.

Jamison led the way for the 'Jacks at the championships with three championships - the 4x100m relays, the 4x400m and a defended his 2014 110m hurdles title. He also posted a third-place finish in the men's 100m dash and a fourth-place finish in the 200m dash. Fisher joined Jamison on the podium in both relays while also picking up a championship in the 200m and a second-place finish in the 100m dash. Adel al Nasser finished second overall in the men's 400m dash.

The 'Jacks had another huge breakthrough in the men's 5000m. Weston Strum took the top prize with a time of 14:16.80 followed by Futsum Zienasellassie. Matt McElroy and Alejandro Montano also picked up points for the 'Jacks in that event. Strum had another strong performance in the 1500m, picking up a silver medal while Zienasellassie and Nathan Weitz also picked up points in that event.

Gus Margiotta and Shawn Collins led on the throws front today, finishing fourth and fifth in the men's shot put. Alexander Odem picked up points for the 'Jacks with a seventh-place finish in the men's triple jump.

On the women's side, Brooke Andersen started the day off strong with a win in the women's hammer throw. Also in the throws, Julia Viberg picked up a title in the women's discus with a distance of 55.55m. This marks her third-straight title.
