Day Four Results
EUGENE, Ore. – To close out the 2015 season for the Northern Arizona track & field team, Julia Viberg represented NAU at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon in the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Viberg's best throw of the day would be 52.03m as she finished in 14th place in front of 11,734 fans.
"Julia was ready to throw far after a good warmup but I think she just tried to throw too hard," said throws coach Nathan Ott. "The best thing Julia can do is learn from this so she can better herself in the future."
Viberg was in the first of two flights and was the final participant in the first heat throwing 12th. Viberg started off in fourth place after her first throw as her first attempt went 50.80m. The distance increased from numerous competitors in the second throw and Viberg had her best throw of the day in her second attempt as the junior's throw went for 52.03m. In her final attempt Viberg would fault and after both flights were completed, the native of Sweden finished in 14th place.
"I am really happy to have made it to nationals but I am not satisfied," said Viberg. "I want to keep improving next year so hopefully I will be back at this meet but with a different result."
This was Viberg's second appearance at the national meet but hopefully not her last as she has one more year left in outdoors.
"I am happy with Julia's progress throughout this year," said Ott. "She has accomplished a lot this year by working hard and staying healthy so she can only get better from here."
Northern Arizona wraps up the NCAA Outdoor Championships with three points on men's side, a one point improvement from last season. Out of the four NAU represenatives at the national meet, the Lumberjacks will say goodbye to the graduating seniors Matt McElroy and Weston Strum.
