NAU Volleyball Quick Sets with Victoria Ewalefo

Throughout the month of June, nauathletics.com will introduce each of the four incoming NAU Volleyball freshmen to Lumberjack Country. Next: Victoria Ewalefo.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Taking their athletic talents to the collegiate level runs in the Ewalefo family. This fall, Victoria Ewalefo will join three of her siblings who have played or are currently playing collegiate sports when she officially suits up for the Northern Arizona volleyball team.

The athletic 6-1 middle blocker from Las Vegas brings an impressive resume and powerful arm with her after starring for four years at Bishop Gorman High School. Ewalefo, a two-time All-Sunset Region and All-Southwest Conference First Team selection, was her team's MVP as a senior just a year after being named the squad's Most Improved Player. She appeared on the Class of 2015 Under Armour All-American Watch List and AVCA PHENOM list and helped her team to three state tournament appearances in four years. Ewalefo, who also competed on the track & field team in the high jump, hit .447 during her final year and averaged 3.1 kills per set.

Now, get to know the incoming freshman from Las Vegas, Nev. in the third of four weekly installments of Quick Sets.

Q: What are you looking forward to the most about playing volleyball at Northern Arizona University?

A: "I'm looking forward to playing competitively at the collegiate level and getting to play for Coach (Ken) Murphy, Cat and Anna (assistant coaches Catherine Chavez and Anna Gott) and with a dedicated group of girls."

Q: What part of your game on the court should fans be excited about?

A: "Blocking is my strong suit as well as quick attacks in the middle. I'm super competitive and I never give up regardless of the score."

Q: If you could play any other position on the court, what would it be?

A: "If I could play any position, it would be outside hitter. They get set the most and they usually get to play back row as well."

Q: If you weren't playing volleyball, what sport would you be playing?

A: "For sure I'd be playing basketball. I played basketball from first grade until middle school. Two of my sisters played basketball and continued to play in college, so I was the first off to branch off into volleyball."

Q: What is one thing that most people do not know about you?

A: "I'm half Nigerian, I laugh when I'm angry and I cry when I'm disgusted."
