NAU Volleyball Quick Sets with Jordan Anderson
NAU Volleyball Quick Sets with Jordan Anderson

Throughout the month of June, nauathletics.com will introduce each of the four incoming NAU Volleyball freshmen to Lumberjack Country. First up: Jordan Anderson.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – During her four-year prep career at Horizon High School, Jordan Anderson was a key member of four teams who advanced to the state tournament including winning a State Championship in 2012. Now that she will officially join the Northern Arizona volleyball team in the fall, the Lumberjacks hope to infuse her pedigree into the winning culture they have developed themselves in what will be an intense hunt for the Big Sky Championship in 2015.

Anderson, a 5-6 setter and defensive specialist in high school, is expected to initially compete in the back row for the Lumberjacks. During her final season, she was named to the Division I All-State and All-Paradise Valley District Teams and was selected as District MVP after averaging 9.3 assists and 3.2 digs per set. Over her career at Horizon, she eclipsed the 1,000-career mark in assists (1,654) and digs (1,304) while totaling 176 kills and 123 service aces on the attack.

Now, get to know the incoming freshman from Phoenix, Ariz. in the first of four weekly installments of Quick Sets.

Q: What are you looking forward to the most about playing volleyball at Northern Arizona University?

A: "I'm excited to play for Ken, Anna and Cat (head coach Ken Murphy and assistant coaches Anna Gott and Catherine Chavez). I've known Anna my whole life so it's really cool to play finally for her. I've also gotten to know the team really well the last couple of months. They seem like so much fun and the atmosphere – playing in front of big crowds who come to support us play – is exciting too."

Q: What part of your game on the court should fans be excited about?

A: "I'm a really smart player and I'm competitive. I never give up on anything and I bring a positive attitude to the teams that I've played on. We're going to make mistakes and we're going to lose sometimes, but we need to keep our composure and I'll help maintain the chemistry and energy on the team."

Q: If you could play any other position on the court, what would it be?

A: "Probably outside (hitter). You get to play all the way around and they get the most sets. It seems like so much fun."

Q: If you weren't playing volleyball, what sport would you be playing?

A: "Dance. I used to dance but I had to quit because volleyball practice was on the same nights. I'm pretty in to dance."

Q: What is one thing that most people do not know about you?

A: "I like to sing. I like pop music. I used to also be in show choir."
