NAU's Cory Glines Voted Big Sky Cross Country Male Athlete of the Week

OGDEN, Utah – Northern Arizona University men's cross country distance runner Cory Glines was voted this week's Big Sky Male Athlete of the Week, announced Tuesday afternoon.

Glines, a native of Canton, Ohio, participated in his first collegiate race this past Saturday at the 35th Annual George Kyte Classic. The redshirt sophomore grabbed the No. 1 position early in the race and maintained a steady pace throughout, never surrendering his lead. Glines finished first overall on the men's side with a time of 22:48.9.

"This is a well-deserved honor for Cory, as he has had to battle back from knee surgery last year," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Eric Heins. "The recognition is a testament to his work ethic and determination to be the leader of this team."

Thanks in part to Glines' stellar performance Saturday afternoon, the NAU men's team secured its fourth-straight GKC title, and its 17th in the last 21 seasons. NAU ended the day with the top-five finishers, while 10 'Jacks placed in the top-20 overall. The women's side also earned a No. 1 team finish, with four runners ending the day in the top-10.

Glines and the rest of the cross country program will have this weekend off before returning to competition at the Dave Murray Invitational in Tucson, Ariz., on Friday, Sept. 18. That meet will start at 4:30 p.m. MST.
