FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona University track and field program paired up with cub scout Pack 112 of Flagstaff for a little fun in the Skydome yesterday at the NAU Track and Field Kids Day.

Kids six through ten got to enjoy a fun-filled afternoon participating in various activities such as the long jump, relay competitions, sprint drills and throwing practice with the Lumberjack student-athletes and coaching staff.

"It's great because so many of these kids get involved with soccer, basketball, maybe flag football, but there aren't a lot that get exposed to track and field," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Eric Heins. "For them to come out here and do the things they normally do—run, jump and throw stuff—it's a great experience for them."

Each track and field unit—sprints, distance, jumps and throws—was well represented for NAU as Pack 112 enjoyed the atmosphere and excitement of being around some of the best Lumberjack student-athletes.

"Our athletes love it, too," said Heins, who is also a Pack 112 cub scout leader. "You can just see how excited they are to watch these little six to ten year-olds jump in the sand pit or work on a sprint drill. I think they really enjoy being out here and being able to see the smiles on these kids' faces."
