Hot Shooting Hawks Down NAU, 101-59

Box Score FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – North Dakota (9-9, 4-3 BSC) shoots its way past Northern Arizona (3-14, 1-5 BSC) to capture a 101-59 win at the Walkup Skydome. The Lumberjacks were unable to stop the Fighting Hawks from three-point range as the visiting team hit 14 from long range to capture the victory.
Junior guard Kris Yanku scored 17 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and dished out five assists to lead the Lumberjacks. Junior forward Ako Kaluna pitched in 12 points, while freshman forward Felix Rivera-Vega added 11 points and six boards.
North Dakota's aggressive play to start the game led to a 46-25 halftime lead that left the home team trailing by quite a few. UND used a 17-point bench performance, led by reserve Conner Avants' 10 points. The Fighting Hawks were able to connect from long range as they hit eight three-pointers, four of them coming at the hands of Corey Baldwin.
The Lumberjacks stumped themselves in the foot in the second half making a mere eight of 20 free throw attempts. Although NAU did not give up the halftime deficit was just too much to overcome.
Baldwin finished with 22 points for UND, while Drick Bernstine had a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds. The Fighting Hawks shot 60.9 percent from the floor and 53.8 percent from three-point range to cruise past NAU. UND finished with 43 bench points.
NAU continues its home stand with a match-up versus Northern Colorado on Saturday. Tip-off at the Walkup Skydome is scheduled for 2 p.m.
