OGDEN, Utah – It started off sluggish for both teams tonight, and is it came down to the final minutes; Weber State (14-6, 6-1 BSC) came out on top with an 86-76 win over Northern Arizona (3-16, 1-7 BSC) at the Dee Events Center. Three Lumberjacks scored in double digits led by junior guard Kris Yanku's 19 points and nine rebounds.

"I told the guys to be down by 18 and come to within three points like that comes from not giving up," said head coach Jack Murphy. "We loss the rebounding battle tonight, although we were up by one at the half. I couldn't be more proud as a coach tonight because they battled and did not give up."

The offense by both teams tonight was rather slow as it took over two minutes for the first score of the game. While the Wildcats had multiple players scoring points, NAU had to lean on Yanku and Ako Kaluna. The two juniors were the only Lumberjacks to score in the first half, until Mike Green found Torry Johnson for the layup with 4:51 left to play. After that bucket, a Marcus DeBerry three-pointer from the left side tied the game at 20-All; the first tie of the game.

The Wildcats went on a 8-0 run before Green hitter a jumper with two seconds left in the half to send the Lumberjacks into the locker room down, 29-24. Both teams shot in the 30s to with NAU connecting on nine field goals to WSU's nine.

Weber State came out of the locker room on fire. The home team went on a 9-0 run to start the second half, before Corey Brown nipped it with a layup to trim the Wildcats' lead to 38-26.

The Lumberjacks continued to fight back as DeBerry found Yanku for the lay-in to come to within six points of the Wildcats.

With four minutes and 30 seconds remaining, NAU trailed Weber State by five points. Thirteen seconds later, Brown's layup saw the game come to within three points causing a hush over the Dee Events Center. From there, the Wildcats managed to extend their lead, despite Yanku making back-to-back treys down the stretch.

Weber State made buckets down the stretch and continued to get rebounds, as it came away with the win tonight. Joel Bolomboy, the nation's leader in double-doubles, finished with 17 points and 15 rebounds. The Wildcats shot 49.1 percent from the floor and 69.2 percent from the charity stripe. Despite its 17.4 three-point field goal percentage, Weber State escaped with the win.

Kaluna added 15 points and five rebounds for NAU, while Green registered 10 points and five rebounds. The Lumberjacks finished with 44.3 percent from the floor, 33.3 percent from long range, and 75 percent from the free throw line.
