OGDEN, Utah – Freshman Kaleigh Paplow had one of the greatest offensive games in Northern Arizona women's basketball history. The Lumberjacks (6-20 overall, 2-13 Big Sky) shot a season-best 58.3 percent from the field and outrebounded Weber State by 10. Yet, victory still eluded the 'Jacks in a 95-88 overtime loss to the Wildcats, as the Wildcats capitalized on every single one of NAU's miscues.

"They had 37 points off of our 28 turnovers," said head coach Sue Darling. "They made 21 free throws out of 30 and only took four in the first half. They made 10 threes. We had a hard time guarding the drive and the three and it definitely came down to turnovers and defense for us. Still we had a chance to win, so that's exciting."

Paplow converted at the rim, hit perimeter shots and knocked down free throws on her way to 36 points – the highest single game total in the Big Sky this season. She made 13-of-16 – and set a single-game school record for field goal percentage (.813) with a minimum of 15 attempts – while tying for the sixth-highest scoring total in school history and setting a new single-game NAU freshman scoring record. She was the first Lumberjack to reach the 30-point plateau since Amanda Frost scored 38 points at Montana State on March 6, 2014, and also grabbed a season-high 14 rebounds to notch her second double-double.

Still, Paplow's efforts did not result in a victory as the Lumberjacks were hampered by 28 turnovers, matching their season-worst which also came against Weber State. Weber State turned those mistakes into 37 points and a plus-30 margin on points off turnovers.

Despite the turnovers, NAU was in position to win by making 35-of-60 from the field and holding a 38-28 rebounding advantage. The 'Jacks also shot 82.4 percent from the charity stripe making 14-of-17 attempts and had the momentum going into the extra period after senior Mariah Willadsen beat the buzzer to tie the game at 78-78.

Senior Rene Coggins' three-pointer tied the game at 81-81 a minute into overtime and junior Catelyn Preston's layup gave NAU its final lead, 85-84, with 2:43 remaining. However, the Wildcats' corresponding 9-0 run all but put the game away pushing them to a 93-85 lead with 36 seconds left.

Weber State led by as much as six with two minutes left in regulation, before a bucket by Paplow and a three-point play by Willadsen brought NAU within one at 73-72. The Wildcats had a chance to seal the deal, but failed to make it a two-possession game with seven seconds by missing two free throws. That set the stage for Willadsen's game-tying basket, which was set up by Preston's laser pass after saving an errant pass in the corner.

The Lumberjacks led by one, 13-12, after the first quarter only to see the Wildcats grab a seven-point lead four minutes into the second period. A 10-0 NAU run put NAU back in front, 29-27, and it would take a 31-30 lead into the intermission.

Following 34.4 percent shooting in the first half, the Wildcats stormed in front by the end of the third quarter, 57-53, courtesy of 58.8 percent shooting in the period. Weber State did a lot of damage behind the arc immediately after halftime draining five three-pointers in the third, but Paplow and senior Monique Mulder kept the Lumberjacks within striking distance by combining for 18 of NAU's 22 points. Mulder wound up with 15 points off the bench, marking her second-best scoring total of the season and her first double-digit scoring game since Dec. 4.

"When we put it all together, we're going to be a dangerous team," Darling said. "Obviously sooner rather than later, and sooner couldn't come soon enough."

The game was closely contested with 14 ties and 10 lead changes, but in addition Weber State's points off turnovers advantage, the home team also made six more three-pointers than NAU and was plus-seven at the free throw line.

Rounding out NAU's individual performers was freshman Alyssa Rader who registered a line of 13 points, seven rebounds and a season-high nine assists.

The 'Jacks play their final regular season road game next Saturday, Feb. 27 at Southern Utah at 7 p.m.
