LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Northern Arizona University women's tennis team grinded out a 4-3 victory over the University of Wyoming this afternoon, Feb. 27.  It was a back-and-forth battle as NAU sealed the doubles point, but Wyoming took an early 2-1 lead with singles wins on courts three and five. For the second time this season, freshman Eirene Granville clinched the match at No. 6 singles to lift the 'Jacks past the Cowgirls. Northern Arizona moves to 5-5 this season.

"We had consistent energy from start to finish," Assistant Coach Erica Medlin said. "From the first point in doubles, to the last point in singles, our energy was there. I thought we really took the loss yesterday as a learning experience and came together as a team today."

A bounce-back win after falling to University of Texas, El Paso yesterday (Feb. 26) was just what the doctor ordered. Doubles pair Blanka Szavay and Hanneke Lodewijks got the ball rolling for NAU at line one after topping Magdalena Stencel and Nastya Tokareva 6-3. Marta Lewandowska and Jordan Denesik, in just their second appearance together this season, sealed the doubles point on court three. They took down Elisa Koonik and Tessa Van Der Ploeg 6-4 and move to 2-0 this season.

Despite a shaky start in singles, and Wyoming capturing the first two singles victories, NAU rallied from behind to pick up the next three wins on courts two, four and six.  Blanka Szavay, Hailey Rochin and Granville all added a digit to their win columns although it did not come easy. Wyoming took each of them to three sets- and both Rochin and Granville dropped their first sets- but battled back to capture NAU's third and fourth points respectively.

The Lumberjacks close out the weekend tomorrow, Feb. 28, against New Mexico State University.
