LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Northern Arizona University women's tennis team finished out the weekend on a high note after topping New Mexico State University this afternoon, Feb. 28. The Lumberjacks picked up the doubles point and turned around to win three straight singles matches on courts three, five and six. Northern Arizona improves to a winning record at 6-5 and NMSU drops to 2-6 overall.

"Obviously the third day is a challenge for any weekend where you play three matches in three days," Assistant Coach Erica Medlin said. "But the girls came out with energy for doubles and singles and they maintained it throughout the day. New Mexico State is feisty and we didn't let that get to us."

With wins on courts one and three in doubles play, Northern Arizona undoubtedly got off to a hot start. Doubles pair Blanka Szavay and Hanneke Lodewijks were the first to finish, defeating Rimpledeep Kaur and Ashvarya Shrivastav with a final score of 6-3. Marta Lewandowska and Jordan Denesik sealed the doubles point while improving to a perfect 3-0 at line three following their performance this weekend. Szavay and Lodewijks also advance to a stellar 6-3 this season.

Lewandowska, Denesik and Granville finished first, second and third respectively, bringing home the victory for the Lumberjacks as every other match would go unfinished. Granville, in her inaugural season, advances to 3-2 at No. 6 singles. All three of her wins have clinched the match for NAU.

The Lumberjacks will play at home for the first time this season against Montana State and Emory University on Saturday, March 5. Match times are set to begin at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. respectively in the Aquatic and Tennis Complex. Admission is free for all who attend.
