OGDEN, Utah – After breaking an 11-year old school record and nine-year old Big Sky record in the hammer throw last weekend at the UC Irvine Spring Break Invite to open up the 2016 outdoor season, Northern Arizona University's Adam Keenan was named the conference's male field athlete of the week today.
Keenan—who joined the Lumberjack squad after transferring to NAU in January—surpassed the school and conference record in the hammer with a 227' 5" (69. 32m) mark on his fourth attempt Friday afternoon, earning him first-place honors. In what is considered to be his strongest event, Keenan also currently ranks first in the conference and third in the nation in the hammer throw.
As mentioned earlier, Keenan is one of the newest additions to the Lumberjack track and field team and has excelled on the field since stepping onto campus. During the indoor season, Keenan competed in the men's weight throw for the first time in his career and walked away with the gold and all-conference honors at Big Sky Indoor Championships in February.
This is Keenan's first athlete of the week nomination.
