PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona University men's tennis team closed out its non-conference slate this afternoon, April 16, at Grand Canyon University where they fell to the Lopes 6-1. Grand Canyon, who recently captured a share of the Western Athletic Conference regular season title, moves to 13-7 overall while the Lumberjacks drop to 11-11.

To start the afternoon, Northern Arizona dropped the doubles point, but Felix Schumann and Jackson Lee continue to shine bright at line three as they move to double-digit wins at 10-4 this season. The duo topped Adrian Legarreta and Gregoire Balenci 7-5 to position NAU for an early lead. The 'Jacks turned to court one where Tim Handel and Eden Peleg dropped a hard-fought match versus GCU's Felix Schueller and Alexander Roggenkamp 7-6(7).

Highlighting singles action for NAU was Ruben Montano who is competing in his first season for the 'Jacks. The freshman took down Justin Cvitanovic on court six in a close 7-6(7), 7-5 decision. Cvitanovic, who is now 10-2 on the year, was on a four-match win streak coming into today's match. Montano, who has won his last six singles matches, improves to 9-13 overall.

Schumann was close to putting the Lumberjacks on the board first, but fell short against Roggenkamp at No. 3 singles. Schumann won the second set, 7-5, but dropped the tiebreaker 10-4. Peleg and Lee also had their hands full on courts four and five respectively. Peleg was faced with the tall task of snapping Mathieu Rajaonah's 11-match win streak, as was Schumann versus Meidy Chazeau who has now won eight straight singles matches.

Northern Arizona has one final match remaining, and the final home match of the season, against Montana State on Saturday, April 23. The Lumberjacks, sitting in fifth place, recently clinched a spot in the Big Sky Conference Tournament that will take place April 29-May 1.
