LOGAN, Utah – The Northern Arizona University women's tennis team topped the now 8-9 Utah State University Aggies this afternoon with a final score of 4-1. With only three regular season matches remaining before the Big Sky Conference Tournament April 29-May 1, the Lumberjacks are now 14-7 overall and just three wins shy of matching Head Coach Kim Bruno's winningest season in 2013.

"We're really coming together as a team," Bruno said. We're playing better and competing harder each time we step foot on the court. At this point in the season, that is what it's all about."

Doubles play for NAU continues to make huge strides as the 'Jacks have struggled from time to time in securing the doubles point. On court one, Hanneke Lodewijks and Blanka Szavay ousted Ekaterina Tugarinova and Sabrina Demerath 6-1 before Jordan Denesik and Marta Lewandowska finished what Lodewijks/Szavay started with a win on court three.

With a 1-0 lead, this propelled the Lumberjacks into a handful of strong performances in singles action. To no surprise, Szavay handled Tugarinova in straight sets 6-0, 6-1 to improve to 12-8 this season. Lewandowska and Denesik reeled in the final two points on courts three and five respectively.

Lewandowska defeated Maggie O'Meara 6-4, 6-3 for her ninth win of 2016 and Denesik clinched the match over Utah State's Monika Van de Vondel. Despite the match being retired due to injury, the senior was surely on track to win as she stole the first set 7-5 and was up 4-2 in the second. Denesik leads the team in the win column at 13 to just six losses in her final season as a Lumberjack.

Northern Arizona has yet another quick turnaround as they will take on Weber State tomorrow, April 3 in Ogden. With first place on the line, the 'Jacks will certainly have to bring their 'A' game against the 6-1 Wildcats on their home court.
