/ May 23, 2016
NEW ORLEANS, La. – On the heels of the NCAA East and West Preliminary Rounds this week, the USTFCCCA released its week eight national rankings this morning with the Northern Arizona University men sliding up three spots to No. 20 in the country with a season-best 95.22 points—a five point jump from last week.
The men were polled at No. 23 last Monday following their dominate performance at Big Sky Outdoor Conference Championships in Greeley, Colo. The Lumberjack men posted 187 points, aided by eight event victories and 17 all-conference performances. The NAU point total was the fourth-most ever registered at outdoor conference championships, and the team's margin of victory (97.5pts) was the largest ever recorded in Big Sky Outdoor Championship history.
The team victory was the fifth-straight outdoor conference title for the Lumberjacks—marking the longest outdoor championship streak in NAU history—and the 10th straight track and field championship overall, which is a Big Sky all-time record for consecutive conference titles.
The Lumberjack men will send 15 athletes to compete at the NCAA West Prelim Round in Lawrence, Kan., later this week, while the women's team will send six athletes of its own. Keep an eye out for the NAU regional preview which will be posted later today.
