GREENWOOD, Ind. – Before the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds get underway from Lawrence, Kan., today, Northern Arizona University's Caleb Hoover and Micael Ljungberg were named to the 2015-16 CoSIDA Men's Track and Field/Cross Country Academic All-District team earlier this morning. 

This is the second-consecutive CoSIDA Academic All-District honor for Hoover, who is a redshirt-senior competing in his last year of eligibility with the Lumberjacks and has certainly put together a season to remember. Currently, Hoover ranks No. 1 regionally and No. 3 nationally in his staple event, the men's 3000m steeplechase, with a personal-record time of 8:34.23 set at the Payton Jordan Invitational early this month.

Last season, Hoover proceeded to become a CoSIDA Academic All-American. For his career, Hoover has been named to the Big Sky All-Academic cross country team (2011-2014), the Big Sky All-Academic indoor team (2012-2015), & the Big Sky All-Academic outdoor team (2013, 2014), while also earning USTFCCCA All-Academic accolades multiple times in both XC (2012, 2014) and track (2014, 2015). Additionally, Hoover was an All-American in the men's 3000m steeple during the 2014 outdoor season after finishing seventh at nationals.

In the classroom, Hoover is just as impressive, graduating with a bachelor's degree in biomedical science last May with a 3.97 grade point average, and is now holding down a 4.00 GPA as a human relations graduate student at NAU. The native of Joplin, Mo., is participating in his third NCAA West Prelim this weekend, competing both tomorrow night at 9:30 p.m. CT in the men's steeplechase and Saturday at 8:45 p.m. CT in the men's 5000m race.

This is the first such CoSIDA Academic All-District honor for senior thrower Ljungberg, who graduated this May with a degree in mechanical engineering (3.95 GPA). For his career, Ljungberg has been named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic team twice as a Lumberjack (2014 and 2015), while also earning Big Sky All-Academic recognition during both the indoor (2014, 2015) and outdoor (2013-2015) track & field seasons.

On the field this season, Ljungberg notched a personal best in the men's discus event with a 180'1" (54.89m) throw at the Jim Click Shootout, a mark that currently ranks third in the Big Sky. The native of Nykoping, Sweden, will be competing in his fourth NCAA West Prelim this weekend, throwing in the discus event tomorrow at 4 p.m. CT.
