Hoover and Jackson Named Scholar-Athlete Award Winners

OGDEN, Utah – Caleb Hoover and Chelsea Jackson were named Northern Arizona's representatives for the Big Sky Conference Scholar-Athlete Award winners, announced today by the league office.
Jackson, a Flagstaff, Ariz. native, graduated this past May with a degree in biology and a minor in chemistry. She registered a 3.78 grade point average en route to being a four-time WAC All-Academic selection and Golden Eagle Scholar Athlete award recipient. Jackson received 10 All-WAC honors during her career with eight first team honors and two second team honors. She finished second on 1-meter at WAC Championships and third on platform this season. She's a four-time qualifier for NCAA Zone Championships and finished 10th on 1-meter this season, just one spot out of becoming the second diver in school history to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Jackson helped her team win three straight WAC Swimming & Diving Championships.
Hoover, CoSIDA Academic All-American and an USTFCCCA Academic All-American was a four-year member of the cross country and track & field teams graduated in May 2015 with a degree in biomedical science and a minor in chemistry. The Joplin, Mo. native is currently pursuing his master's degree in human relations with a 4.0 gpa. Hoover has earned 11 academic all-conference honors and is on his way to his 12th. During his career Hoover has helped NAU to numerous podium finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships earning All-American accolades, and has picked up outdoor track & field All-American honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Hoover has won 12 Big Sky team titles, winning four straight cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field titles during his time at NAU.
Each institution in the Big Sky Conference selects its own recipients for the conference Scholar-Athlete Award. To qualify for the award, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, be a member of the graduating class and/or have completed their last year of intercollegiate athletic eligibility, have completed at least two years of intercollegiate competition at the institution and be a letterwinner.
